Today, I went to the post office to pick up my mail. Usually, when the mailman comes, I am never at home. So there I was, waiting for my turn and trying to be patient. There were 20 people ahead of me, and I knew that, just like always, I would eventually lose my patience. Waiting at the post office can truly test one’s endurance.
Each customer receives a ticket that includes a letter and two or three numbers. There’s no logical explanation for how these numbers are called. All I know is that they are announced randomly.
As I waited, I noticed a lady nearby who was growing increasingly frustrated with the slow pace. She kept asking the teller, “When are you going to call my number?” Despite her being a pain in the neck, I couldn’t help but agree with her frustration.
Not long after, a family of four walked in. They were also there to pick up their mail—two small girls with their parents. The younger girl kept glancing up at the screen. She repeated their number over and over: “P67, P67, P67…” It seemed a bit childish. Her innocence made me feel less impatient.
She embodied hope and patience as she waited. I understood what it felt like to expect something that would eventually arrive. I recalled the familiar sensation of being next in line, holding onto hope just as that little girl did.
Life can sometimes mirror the experience of waiting at the post office. We all have moments in our lives where we must wait. Being patient and hopeful during these times is not easy. It’s only natural to feel disheartened occasionally. Our emotions play a significant role in our daily lives.
Learning to control these emotions takes time and practice. What we feel often drives the decisions we make. I am now at a stage in my life where I am beginning to understand how to manage my emotions.
I hope that whoever reads my post finds a little bit of hope in my words. Just as that little girl found in waiting for her number to be called.
